Travel and Art (5 Ws and 1 H)

January 2022; Somewhere in Seoul

Travel and art, I love it. For me, it’s the perfect fusion of what I heart the most — creativity and adventure.

I’m a musician, digital nomad and blogger with a camera. And I’m slightly obsessed with creative travel and living a more artistic, carefree lifestyle.

So this post shares how I see artistic travel, why it’s awesome and how to infuse more of it into your trips.

Let’s get to it!

    What Is Travel and Art?

Travel and art is the combination, or blending, of artistic themes with traveling.

    Fair enough.

But it’s deeper than this too.

As a musician and content creator, travel inspires and guides my various projects and creative pursuits. It shifts my mindset and scope of style.

And in a more literal sense, travel is simply a recurring theme in my creative projects.

I’m constantly blending these two pillars, and it’s something I recommend everyone do more of. Let’s look at why.

Why Blending Travel and Art Is Awesome

    • Add more intention and meaningful engagement to your travels

    • Boost your creativity and artistic perspectives

    • Deeper immersion and understanding of local culture

    • Find more inspiration

    • Art is relaxing (perfect for stress-free travel)

    • Meet interesting people

    Who Is Travel-Inspired Art For?

Art is for everyone. Travel is for everyone. So travel-inspired art is – you guessed it – for everyone.

But some will naturally find a deeper connection to this particular style of brush-strokes-on-paper.

You know who I’m talking about here: the adventure-seekers and nomads; the wanderlust souls searching for something more; the linguaphiles, bookworms, inquirers, and aficionados; and so many more.

Still, we don’t always buy art for its deeper meaning. At the end of the day, if the general vibe, and color palette, “hits”, then you’re the perfect buyer.

So if you see something you like (and you don’t know why), I say go for it.

Where Can I Find Travel-Inspired Art?

As an artist and musician, I’m always drawing from the inspiration of others — and I’m always on the lookout for fresh ideas.

With so many of these great ideas popping up all the time, it can be tricky to organize them and know where to look.

Luckily, there are some incredibly inspiring artists out there making some incredibly awesome work.

So here are a few artists, styles and creators in the travel space who inspire me:

When Do I Add New Travel and Art Projects?

OK so this W (and that last H below) will focus on my own brand.

But to be fair, I was having trouble coming up with another ‘when’ question, so…

Still, this is definitely an FAQ I often get (how often do you put out new artwork, music and travel films?).

To cut to the chase, I haven’t been able to plan out my work consistently yet, as my projects are a little bit different than the “usual” (i.e., I’m also juggling filmmaking and producing original music while creating original art — more on that below).

Still, a timeline is in order.

Although things are still pretty nascent over here, the timeframes below are what you can expect from me (at least in these initial stages):

    • *Every 1-3 months, I will aim put out a new travel film with its associated art and music

    • Additional sketches, pictures, merchandise and music are ongoing, posted weekly and during work on my main projects (via my website and socials)

    • *subject to change 😬

Again, as things get off the ground more — and I’m able to pivot away from my full-time work — these timelines will become more streamlined and consistent.

So let’s wrap things up with how exactly I’m building out this concept of travel and art.

How I’m Using Travel and Art To Create A Philanthropic Brand

This last H section will give you a little taste of what I’m doing with my brand behind the scenes. So let’s get right into it.

I’m blending travel with music, art and filmmaking to create a philanthropic brand. And I’m incredibly psyched about it.

    Let’s dig a little deeper.

As a foundation, I travel (but I spend a lot of my time in Japan).

While traveling, I create a core film project and at least one original song (to be used in that travel film). I complete this project with an original artwork, inspired by my experiences, the culture and the people I meet.

Each of these projects are then wrapped up into an NFT (non-fungible token).

I put up each NFT for sale, and the owner then gets the original canvas artwork + 35% of all future income and sales generated from that project’s merchandise (from my store) and its related revenue (from YouTube ads, for example).

Another 35% of all proceeds from each NFT project is then donated to a charity (which is ideally chosen from a list by whoever owns the NFT).

I then keep the remaining 30% of each NFT (to stay aligned with my core mission: to give more than I take).

So yea, that’s the grand plan in nutshell.

It’s sort of a 10,000-foot view though, so if you want to know more about me and my brand, you can head over to my About page to dive a little deeper.

Alternatively, you can check out my individual art, music and film pages to explore more about my process, the scope of my work and what I’m currently working on.

But there it is. I guess ultimately, I hope my art and travel projects are engaging, interactive and inspire people to take their own adventures and travel.

So, what does travel and art mean to you?
